Reminder for meeting

11 a.m. Saturday at the Riverview Cafe in Minneapolis. One thing to put the thinking cap on for: The executive committee has an idea for a keynote speaker, but wanted to hear some Twin Cities alternatives. The idea would be for someone who has experience/interactions with copy editors. Keillor was mentioned back in April in Denver, but who knows how possible that would be.

Others in my mind, with no regard to the possibility: John Sanford, James Lileks, Al Franken (would the election be over by then?), Vince Flynn?

Bring ideas to the meeting or add them in the comments here. Hope to see any and all on Saturday.

Newspaper outreach

I e-mailed a slew of area newspapers on Saturday to let them know about the conference. I've already heard from Mankato that they would like to at least send people, so hopefully I can also get them interested in volunteering or donating something.

UPDATE FROM VINCE:
I am working on outreach as well, via the state newspaper associations. I will update who I have talked to, and I think we also should try to track what papers all of us have talked to.

Vince made contact with: Minnesota Newspaper Association.

UPDATE from Emily:
These are the papers I e-mailed. I've only heard back from Mankato, so I'll plan to contact the rest of them again ASAP. I've been in touch with peeps at St. Cloud, but I'll also get in contact with them (Kate Kompas in particular) in the coming week to see where they're at with budgets and such -- they just did layoffs in Dec., so they might be hurting a bit right now.

November meeting

UPDATE: Let's meet Nov. 15. Emily has a conflict with Nov. 8.

Sorry I didn't get this out sooner. Work and life interrupted after the board was in town, and then I got terribly sick this past week. I didn't hear a roar one way or the other. Can everyone make it Nov. 8? I'd nominate 11 a.m. at the Riverview Cafe. That seemed to work for all. I pledge we'll wrap up business as quickly as possible, and whatever we don't tackle can be handled online.

If the postelection throes are too much, we can certainly push back to Nov. 15. Let me know.

Non-newspaper and corporate editing in the Twin Cities

This is an entry for ACES board member Sara Hendricks, who wants to reach out to these groups for the conference and beyond. Everyone is invited to fill in this entry with more.
